|Re: Windguru vs. Other weather forecast sites [About Windguru.cz website in general, ideas, etc...]|
As for differences between wind***f***inder :) and windguru, it depends on what forecast exactly you are comparing. For long range forecasts (the 7 day forecast) both WG and WF use the GFS model from NOAA/NCEP = American weather service, we do not run this model model ourselves, it is run by NOAA and we both use the same output data for the forecasts => they should be same or at least very simliar on both sites (little differences possible because we probably use a little different interpolation methods to get data for specific point on earth and position of our "spots" might not be exactly same). If we talk about GFS forecast on WG and "Forecast" on WF, then it's THE SAME data, only difference is the display style and user interface... But... it's not that simple ;) both WG and WF also run their own regional models on higher resolution and there you can see differences of course, we run WRF model for Europe, Argentina, Canaries and Egypt, WF also runs their own model for some areas, they show them as "Superforecast", WF also displays "Superforecast" for Northern America and this is the NAM model from NOAA - same as what you can see on WG too.
Look here for more info about models used on WG: http://www.windguru.cz/int/help_index.php?sec=models
When I hear someone say "WG is terrible, WF is much more reliable" or opposite, it's quite funny :) because in most cases they talk about GFS and that forecast is simply the same :)

| Hi Windguru,|
I am a proud subscriber of Windguru PRO for several years, with usage of your forecasts in many areas: professional fishing, water sports and most recently (last 3 years) as support to renewable energy power plants (Wind Power, Hidro Power and Solar-Photovoltaic) production forecasts.
In this last area, recently i was introduced to another website (wind***f***inder) with weather forecasts, by someone that told me that this website is much better than windguru...
I had to visit, try and compare forecasts. The result was:
I found an exact comparison between the forecasts of both sites!!! Considering that Windguru has been in the Cyber world longer (I think...) this left me quiet suspicious.
Could there be to diferent algorithms that read the exact same meteo sources and export the exact same results as a forecast???
